Little Gems Childcare in Ramsgate
Little Gems is a childminding service that offers affordable, quality childcare that meets the needs of the whole family. Whether you want care provision on a full/part time basis, after school, during holidays or just for a doctor's appointment, Little Gems can help.
Little Gems provides a homely, nurturing and stimulating environment where children's social, emotional and educational needs are met. The setting is exclusively used for childcare and has been purposely designed based on our values for child safety, quality education, child development and the happiness of the children.
About The Nursery
This style of setting combines the benefits of a larger nursery teamed with the caring environment of a childminder where each child is treated as an individual. We work with the Early Years' framework to help each child reach their full potential through play, support, encouragement and praise.
The additional option of a bespoke menu of healthy home cooked meals and baking, using fresh organic produce sourced from local farms and businesses, adds to our commitment to create a homely and traditional childcare service.
Due to the smaller groups of children we care for, we have the freedom to take the children out on daily, local outings. Albeit a walk around Spencer Square, a visit to the beach, the park or the library, we feel it is important for children’s development and wellbeing to have the opportunity to explore and experience the outdoors as much as it is to learn and play indoors. In addition to regular outings, the setting also includes has a small, secure sensory garden that children can discover.
The childminding service is run by a qualified practitioner trained to Early Years degree level. In addition, there are two part-time Childcare Assistants working at the setting both of whom have been CRB checked. Little Gems is Ofsted registered and we are regularly inspected; we also hold public liability insurance with the NCMA.
If you are interested in the services we offer, why not book a visit to come and see us at the Little Gems setting. Alternatively, we can conduct an initial home visit so that you and your child can meet us in an environment you are comfortable with.

Eloise has been coming to Gemma's since January 2012 and to put it simply, I am over the moon to have her look after our daughter as the transition in Eloise's confidence and development is immense.
I don't have the best experiences of nurseries having seen Eloise become reserved, tearful and generally not herself after just a few months in a local nursery. Perhaps it was too soon for her, or it was just too big, or maybe I wasn't ready... whatever the reason, I too lost my confidence until a good friend of mine suggested Gemma whom she'd known a long time. I hadn't considered a childminder, but after speaking to Gemma over the phone and going over the experience we'd had, I was struck by how much Gemma took on board my fears and of course my needs for Eloise. Gemma spent time listening to what I said and answered all my questions (of which there were many!) and as soon as I arrived at Gemma's, I relaxed and knew it was right for Eloise. It was the atmosphere and the way Gemma was with Eloise, completely natural and positive. Gemma went through some of things she would do with Eloise and the other children and I was impressed by her professionalism and knowledge.
Gemma's setting is very much like a home environment and I think the intimate setting has been hugely beneficial in building Eloise's confidence. I feel that Gemma respects what I want for Eloise, yet at the same time can fulfil educational needs and allow Eloise to be herself and have fun and very importantly for us, to gain confidence around other children. I feel it's hugely beneficial for Eloise and I to be apart, even for a small amount of time as it allows Eloise to feel comfortable around others and it's working really well.
I find it fascinating hearing about what Eloise has been up to and she now likes to copy some of what she does at Gemma's when she comes home... one being looking after her poorly teddy!
I think Babydays is brilliant, it means my partner can get more involved in what Eloise is doing and it's fun to look at the photos of Eloise interacting with the other children (and animals!) all of whom are firm friends!
I now pick up Eloise and see a confident, happy and very talkative baby. She loves it at Gemma's and gets excited when we get out of the car. It's such a huge relief having someone like Gemma whom I can trust, I think she is wonderful with Eloise and I wouldn't travel all the way to Ramsgate if I thought differently.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to know anything else, but I cannot express enough how highly we regard Gemma.

As a parent, what I want most from a Childminder is the confidence to know my child is safe, feels secure and is happy and it is clear to me that Gemma has, not only considered these points, but has based the whole childcare setting on them.
The facility is always clean and tidy and well presented. Having had a good look around, there doesn’t appear to be anything that poses a risk to any of the children. I love the homely, welcoming and overall good feel of the setting.
When considering childcare, my main worry was that no-one else could look after my child as well as me. I needn’t have worried, it is obvious how much Sienna enjoys being with Gemma and that she is well cared for. From the moment we walk through the door, Sienna is all smiles and looking for the other children. She has never shown signs of being clingy towards me or upset to be left.
I am so happy with our decision to send Sienna to Gemma and the fact that Sienna enjoys her time there so much really is the icing on the cake.

It is with great pleasure that I write this reference for GemmaBritton. My child Winston Ottaway has been attending the setting for a little while now and I can see a real development in him in such a short time. He is starting to recognise his colours and his knowledge of words is improving all the time. More importantly in this time i have noticed Winston’s personality really start to develop, the interaction with other children and the staff at littlegems have made him confident and in fact enjoy being the centre of attention. This can only be due to the hands on approach Gemma has with the children, as they say there is no substitute for experience.
As a parent making the correct choice of setting is such an important decision, the correct guidance at this age will set them in the right direction for the future. We looked at lots of nurseries for Winston and all without exception were bigger and longer established. So why did we choose a smaller less established setting? Well it was quite an easy decision one reason was the homely feel of the premises, the moment Winston walked in you could see he was comfortable, that comfort has continued, he walks in as if he were home. This gives me confidence to carry on with my day as a working mother. The main reason though is that Gemma’s experience is obvious to the parents and this is also apparent in the children’s response to her, many of the nurseries if vetted had a younger staff which I do not have an issue with but again you cannot beat experience and knowledge.
I would highly recommend Gemma and littlegems to any parent wanting to give the right start in life.

Babysdays Management Website
At LittleGems we use a comprehensive online management site called Babysdays. This online tool enables you to view your child's daily diaries, progress records, photos and a scrapbook of artwork. The site is also a central repository to store policies, permissions, parent communications and to keep children's records up to date and is fully manageable without staff taking precious time away from the children.
